What's On Your Plate?

What's on my plate?

How are my food choices impacting the planet?

These are two questions I've asked myself time and time again. And they've changed how I shop. I buy most of my produce from my local farmers' market and visit bakeries and butches for my meats and bread. On the whole, I eat less meat and fish and indulge less in processed snacks 😢 which I've replaced with local fruits. (*Fun fact, if your kiddo is hungry and the only snack available is cantaloupe from your farmers' market, they'll eat it).

Most of our food waste is sent off to be composted. When eating out I seek out restaurants that share these farm-to-table and zero-waste values.

This conscious way of shopping and eating has become enjoyable over the years. I love wandering through farmers' markets with friends. My trash can is a cute little 4x8 bin in the kitchen. And, I've recently learned that eating locally can potentially mean eating food with a higher nutritional content. Also, fresh local food just tastes better.

On a sustainable note, making choices to eat sustainably however you can is better for the planet. Shopping locally and reducing meat consumption can reduce CO2 emissions. Swapping processed snacks for local produce reduces packaging and plastic waste. Overall I have a deeper understanding of how my food choices are impacting the planet.

In today's newsletter, I'm going to share this journey with you- from interviews with plant-based chefs to how I shop at my local farmers' market. And how other countries are reducing food waste too.

Throughout, you'll find tips from plant-based eaters to
